Florida vinyl numbers and validation decals: a pre-application checklist
Keep custom registration lettering separate from official Florida validation decals while planning the display area.
In Florida, boat registration numbers go on both sides of the forward half of the bow, at least 3 inches tall in block characters that contrast with the hull, in the format FL 1234 AB. The FL validation sticker goes on the port side within 6 inches of the numbers.
Plan official decals and custom lettering separately
Before removing old lettering, photograph the current number area and identify the official validation decal. Check Florida’s current guidance for your vessel category and plan the custom vinyl around the applicable display requirements. Keep the exact assigned identifier on your measurement sheet.
The proof request concerns custom lettering. It does not supply a state-issued registration decal or replace the vessel’s official documents. Review the current FWC guidance before application.
