Great Lakes hulls
Spray, fenders and changing light can make low-contrast lettering hard to read; position the complete sequence well away from hardware.
Michigan • custom cut vinyl number kits
MC boat numbers designed around Great Lakes conditions and the varied hull shapes on Michigan waters.
Michigan owners use very different boats on Lake St. Clair, Grand Traverse Bay, Lake Michigan and smaller inland lakes. A deep-V fishing hull, a pontoon tube and a sailboat with a tall bow all offer different areas for numbering. Decide where the characters will go before choosing a font, color or length.
We produce number lettering, not the state-issued registration or validation sticker.
Measure the usable space at the forward part of the hull on both sides, noting rub rails, trim and seams. On aluminum boats, check that the chosen vinyl contrasts with bare metal or painted panels. On fiberglass, look for oxidation or a textured surface that could interfere with adhesion. A real-size paper layout can prevent last-minute squeezing of the MC prefix and suffix.
Seasonal storage matters. If the boat comes out of winter storage, let the hull reach the application temperature recommended by the vinyl manufacturer, and avoid applying lettering to condensation, wax or ice-cold surfaces. Durable-looking lettering can still fail when surface preparation is rushed.

For painted and unpainted aluminum, prioritize strong contrast and inspect any rough or riveted application areas.
Confirm the intended mounting surface is smooth enough for vinyl and leaves space for the state-issued decal.
Michigan's Secretary of State manages boat registrations and official decals. Our store makes replacement custom MC vinyl number lettering; it does not assign registration numbers or issue the official Michigan stickers.
Always check the latest vessel registration and number-display instructions from the Michigan Secretary of State. Display and validation requirements can vary by vessel and registration status; do not rely on a design mockup as legal approval.

Not necessarily. The most readable color depends on the background. Compare the number color against the actual area where it will be applied, not the boat's overall paint scheme.
Only when the hull is clean, dry and within the vinyl manufacturer's recommended installation temperature range. Cold or damp surfaces can affect adhesion.
